CHOIR DESCRIPTION
The St. Columba Choirs provide an opportunity for members of our parish community to serve in the Music Ministry as vocalists during our Sunday liturgy from September to June. Instrumentalists are also given an opportunity to help enhance the music that supports the Sunday mass, Christmas and Easter Triduum. We have many opportunities for new members. Let us know how we can welcome you into our ministry.
The Cantors serve as a song leader who leads the faithful in congregational singing and as a psalmist who proclaims the living Word of God with clarity, conviction, and sensitivity to the text while the gathered assembly listens and sings the refrain in response.
The Parish Children’s Choir provides musical leadership during the 12:00 pm mass on the 3rd Sunday of each month and rehearses on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 1:00-3:00 pm. Children (Age 8 to 12) of all musical background and abilities are invited.
The Youth Choir is composed of middle school and high school students who provide musical leadership during the 5:00 pm mass on the 2nd Saturday of each month and rehearses before mass from 3:30 – 4:45 pm. Vocalists at all musical level are welcome as well as instrumentalists who are proficient in their instrument.
The Gospel Choir provides musical leadership during the 12:00 pm mass on the 1st Sunday of each month. This vocal ensemble rehearses on the two Thursdays before the 1st Sunday mass from 8:00 – 9:00 pm.
The Voices of Praise (VOP) provides musical leadership during the 5:00 pm mass on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month and during the 12:00 pm mass on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month. This vocal ensemble rehearses on the 1st and 2nd Thursdays and 3rd and 4th Mondays of each month from 7:00- 9:00 pm.
The Adult Choirs provide musical leadership during the 8:00 am and 10:00 am Sunday Masses from September to June. These vocal ensembles generally sings in four parts (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) and are open to adults. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 pm. The Adult Choirs provide a foundation for developing a volunteer based cantor program.
The Seasonal Choir provides an opportunity for members of the parish community to serve in the Music Ministry as vocalists on a short term basis. This ensemble provide musical leadership during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Confirmation. Vocalists and instrumentalists are needed.
The Summer Choirs provide musical leadership during 8:00 am and 10:00 am Sunday Masses from July to August. These ensembles invite future members who may be thinking about joining the Adult Choirs which begins in September.
